Local bands Ra-Ra Rasputin and the Ex-Husbands have more in common with Belle and Sebastian than Etienne Daho and both bands sing all their songs in English, but they're still throwing a Bastille Day party at the Velvet Lounge. Ra-Ra Rasputin guitarist Patrick Kigongo -- the band's resident Francophone -- promises he'll be spinning nothing but French music before the bands go on: "everything from Serge Gainsbourg to [hip-hop group] NTM to the new Justice album." There's an $8 cover, and doors open at 9.

This was the first night of ra-ra rabble rousing and many thanks to those who came out and rawked! The place was packed and a splendid time was had by all! The Husbands bought the lo-fi ruckus to a crowd and we adored them.

At the end of our set, the Husbands joined us on stage for a five minute percussion jam. Whoever complained that DC crowds do not dance is a fool. We had the upstairs of Wonderland lookin' like a rowdy weekend night!

Stay tuned for our next exciting adventure as we set sail for U street where we will take over Velvet Lounge for a Bastille Day celebration on July 14th. Be there and be French!!!

We are time.....

In exactly two weeks, we'll be playing with The Ex-Husbands @ our beloved bar the Wonderland Ballroom. Despite some nerves, we are amped to turn it up.

Tonight we had a short, but eventful, rehearsal. On Sunday, we're gonna be posted up @ Girard for nearly 8 hours. Fun, Fun, Fun lies ahead, children.

Our Friends...The Husbands

Ra-Ra fans...meet the Ex-Husbands:

The Husbands are a punk-folk duo that write songs in the spirit of shoegaze and neo-psychadelic bands of yesteryear. Some similar bands are: Beat Happening, Mazzy Star, Lou Reed and the Velvets, the Primitives, Velocity Girl.
They are Haley Baptiste and Andrew Bucket. Their first E.P is called Shoes and it cost absolutely nothing to record.

Irvine Welsh thinks our band is cool. You?

Don't get the impression that Mr. Trainspotting himself came to our practice space and drank Miller Lite with us--Anna and I recently popped into our local watering hole, the infamous Wonderland Ballroom to meet the legendary Scotsman. We ended up having a little conversation about early New Order and whether or not Porno will ever be filmed.
I can't believe that one of my favorite authors was posted up just a few blocks from my house! Attention Nick Hornby.........
